Melaleuca oil, which is also known as ‘tea tree oil’, is a vital oil that is obtained from Melaleuca alternifolia’s leaves. It contains more than 92 different components and can change its color from clear to pale yellow. The plant is characterized by camphor-like and fresh smell. It grows as a tree or like a shrub. It originates from Australia and the north-east coast of New South Wales.

In 1920 Arthur Penfold, an Australian researcher examined the extracted oils from native plants and started the commercial industry of tea tree. Among the 8 species of tea tree that are grown for its oil, the most important one is Melaleuca alternifolia.
