Ten men and women received a single meal containing zero, one, four or eight Brazil nuts, and a single serving of these nuts immediately improved the cholesterol levels, while after 9 hours, these levels were significantly reduced.
On the other hand, statins need 4 hours to provide a significant effect.
After a month, researchers measured the cholesterol levels of participants, and they found that the cholesterol levels were still lower, even 30 days after the consumption of a single serving of Brazil nuts!
This finding was extremely surprising. Furthermore, they also found that 4 nuts worked faster than 8 nuts in boosting good cholesterol and lowering bad cholesterol, so just 4 Brazil nuts are enough to improve LDL and HDL levels for up to 30 days.
Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, so 4 nuts daily might be too much, but 4 nuts a month, might be the adequate dosage to regulate cholesterol levels even more effectively than statins.
