Natural Ways To Reduce Facial Pain Caused By Trigeminal Neuralgia

The Trigeminal nerve is the largest of the cranial nerves and it is responsible for sensation in the face as well as chewing, biting, and other motor functions. It separates into three branches which connect to the lower, middle, and upper sections of your face.

So, damage to one or all of these branches results in Trigeminal Neuralgia, or more known as facial pain.

This means that even the smallest stimulation of your face like putting on makeup or brushing your teeth can cause extreme pain.  Even though it can begin with short, mild pain, the condition can gradually progress and trigger longer severe attacks.

The usual treatment of trigeminal neuralgia includes prescribed medications, injections, and in some cases even surgery. But, besides your therapy, there’s something else you can do to help reduce the debilitating pain in your face completely naturally.

Here are several natural ways to complement the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and help reduce the pain:

1. Diet

Your diet should include plenty of foods rich in B complex vitamins and omega-3s. These nutrients support healthy nerve function and relieve inflammation. All of this can help you reduce the pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia.

Foods rich in these nutrients include dairy products (milk, cheese, and yogurt), eggs, legumes (like peas and beans), leafy greens, whole grain products (like oatmeal and bread), soy milk, almond milk, and flaxseed.

You can also take them as supplements.

2. Herbs

Some herbs can help relieve nerve pain, such as St. John’s wort. Another herb which not only treats nerve pain but also improves the immune system and speeds up the healing process is Rosemary.

It is especially known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Before adding them or any other herb to your diet, consult a doctor or nutritionist to prevent possible interaction with your medications.

3. Ashwagandha Oil

This oil can help reduce nerve pain thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Also, it boosts the immune system, thus accelerating the healing process. All you have to do is apply it directly on your skin with gentle massage.

4. Ice Pack or Warm Compress

To promote faster and better healing and reduce the pain, it’s important to relax not only your muscles but your entire body as well. You can achieve that by placing a warm compress or ice pack over the aching area of your face.

Managing stress levels by doing some relaxing activity like meditation or yoga can boost your immune system ensuring faster healing. You can try different relaxation techniques and once you find what works for you, include it in your trigeminal neuralgia treatment.

5.Colloidal Silver and DMSO

According to some studies, this condition is triggered by a viral infection that’s been lying dormant in the nerve system. And, colloidal silver can help eliminate viruses, fungicides, bacteria, and unwanted protozoa’s in the body. So, choose a safe brand of colloidal silver and consume 3 to 5 tablespoons daily in divided doses.

Also, you can mix one teaspoon of colloidal silver with 20 drops of pharmaceutical grade DMSO. Then, take a rag or paper towel and soak it in the mixture. Place the rag on the aching area and let it stay for half an hour.

Do this three times a day for 4 to 6 weeks. The DMSO will help the colloidal silver penetrate deep inside and kill the virus.
