Those little white balls that are commonly found around the eyes are called “milia”. According to experts, we should not try to remove them or pull them off since they may cause some skin injuries as well as scars.

What are Milia?

Milia are actully keratin cysts that appear as a result of accumulation of fat between the old and new layers of skin.

What are the causes of their appearance?

There are many factors that can cause them appear such as: genetics, cosmetics, exposure to the sun, smoking, fat in the skin, and poor diet.

Here’s how to get rid of them:

Castor Oil

The mixture of the same amount of castor and olive oil will help you since castor oil is effective for the treatment of diseases such as infections, constipation and asthma. All you should do is to aplly the mixture on your face, allow it to absorb and then rinse it off.


Steam will help your skin to release the contaminants. It gets you better blood circulation and helps cleaving the pores and remove dead skin cells.

Cornstarch and vinegar

You can use cornstarch because it has the ability to help the skin to absorb excess oil. In combination with apple cider vinegar, it can become a great remedy to remove whitehead-type milk spots. Mix the 2 ingredients well until you create a paste and apply it to your face. Allow the mask to stay for about 25 minutes and then rinse it off.

Leaves of fenugreek

Many cultures use fenugreek to help remove warts, acne, pimples and other skin changes due to its antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Do not expose yourself to the sun

Try to avoid heavy cosmetics, never scratch or try to pop the spots, don’t touch your face and most importantly, don expose yourself on too much sunlight since prolonged exposure can aggravate milia and further damage skin.

Tea tree oil

Known as a disinfectant, can clean skin of all infections and milia as well, so just put it on your face and leave it during the night.


Due to its strong antioxidant and exfoliating properties, roasted pomegranate peel powder is an excelent milk spot remedy. To prepare it, take a couple of pomegranate peels, roast them until they’re nice and brown and crush them into a fine powder. You can add some lemon juice if you want. Apply this mask on your face and allow it to stay for about 15 minutes. After that, rinse it off. Repeat this process for a few weeks, until the bumps have dissapeared.

Lemon juice with sugar

Use lemon juice in combination with sugar to get rid of milia since lemon has fantastic antiseptic, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. All you need to do is to mix 2 tbsp of sugar, 1 tbsp of olive oil and a little lemon juice. Once it’s done, gently rub this mixture on your face, leave it on for about 15-20 minutes and wash.


Honey is excellent for hydrating the skin. It prevents drying out and creating excess dead skin.

Remove makeup before going to bed

Make sure to wash your face twice a day, to moisturize your skin and to sustain a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Always clean your face from makeup because it can clog up your pores while you sleep, which we all know, contributes to acne and other skin irregularities.
