If it happens very often, you should consult your doctor. One reason for the bleeding nose can be a condition called hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. Besides bleeding from the nose there are other symptoms such as appearance of red spots on the face, lips and extremities. These patients have abnormal blood vessels which cause frequent bleeds.
When it manifested?
Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia can manifest at any age, ranging from a baby. But often the symptoms show up in the elderly.
The most recognizable symptom is bleeding from the nose, which over time becomes more abundantly. Bleeding starts for no apparent reason are and not preceded by nose injuries. Accompanying symptoms are appearance of red spots on the face, mouth and hands.
Diagnosis of the disease is a real challenge
Bleeding and other symptoms of the disease manifest themselves differently, even among members of the same family. Abnormal blood vessels can be found in the brain and lungs, and often the first symptom of the disease is bleeding in the lungs or stroke. Another reason for late diagnosis of the disease is the lack of awareness of medical professionals for this condition.
As with any disease, early detection is the first step in treatment. The type of treatment depends on the degree of development of the disease and symptoms manifestation. One option is laser treatment of lesions that bleed. It used standard solution was surgery, but nowadays it is replaced with interventional procedures to decide the abnormality of the blood vessels.
