In a recent study, five postmenopausal women and four men ages 51 to 57, with the first stage of high blood pressure, were given doses of seeded watermelon to determine its effectiveness against pre-hypertension. Scientists found better arterial function and lowered aortic blood pressure in all nine subjects. The report also concluded that the seeded watermelon prevented prehypertension from progressing to full-blown high blood pressure.
