During the season of holidays, people all over the world eat a lot of chocolate stuff and they worry about gaining weight, when that should be the least important problem.
The consumption of refined sugar in great amounts is linked with the development of tumor, but still, we can’t prove that consuming a lot of sugar can actually be the reason for cancer.

How Sugar Produces Cancer Cells

It should also be mentioned that there is a difference between natural sugar and refined sugar which is in fact high fructose corn syrup and it is harmful for our overall health. In order to avoid cancer, make sure to eliminate sodas, baked desserts, processed foods from your diet. On the other hand, natural sugars in all fruits are less harmful, and their glycemic index is not important.
What to Do
The intake of too much sugar can lead to numerous health issues such as: diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, immobility, etc. In order to reduce the risk of developing cancer, make sure to avoid eating refined sugars that come from processed foods and soda. Instead, try to consume the daily recommended amount of veggies and fruits. Try to incorporate more foods that contain iron, fiber and protein in your diet. On the other hand, stop drinking fruit juices that contain added sugar and instead prepare your own natural juices, but use organic fruit.
When it comes to women, they should not consume more than 6 teaspoons or 25 grams of sugar daily (100 calories), while men should not eat more than 9 teaspoons or 37 grams daily (150 calories). Unfortunately, most of the Americans eat more than double of this amount, or around 22 teaspoons on a daily basis.
Hidden sugars: maltose, sucrose, lactose fructose, glucose, and dextrose are types of hidden sugar that can be found on the label for Nutritional Facts label on all products.
Other natural sugars: agave nectar, molasses, maple syrup and honey are natural sugars which are abundant in antioxidants. The antioxidants have the ability to protect you from cancer. However, make sure to eat them in moderation, because they still contain a lot of calories just like other sweeteners.
