One of the human’s basic need is to drink water whenever they feel thirsty. Moreover, drinking water is extremely healthy for our overall health, so you should drink water as much as you can, not only when you are really thristy. In this why, you will keep your body hydrated.
However, sometimes we need to restrain from drinking water in some situations because it can have detrimental effects on our overall health. For instance, it is not recommended to drink water before, during or right after a meal and in this article we will show you why.
Drinking water before meals will slow down the digestion by diluting the gastric juice and weakening the digestive system. When it comes to people who take medicines before meals, they should do that at least an hour in advance and reduce the consumption of water before lunch or dinner.
On the other hand, drinking water right after a meal, directly affects the food quality and the strenght of the digestive system. No matter what kind of food you eat, the water will act as a coolant which will soon lead to unexpected weight gain.
When should we drink water?
People should drink water at least half an hour after having a meal, because in this way it will give them the feeling of satiety and it will satisfy their thirst. After a couple of hours later, you can drink as much as water you want since the digestion process will be over by this time.
However, there are people who cant’t control their thirst and they need to drink water between the meals, so they should at least drink in minimal amounts. Another important thing to mention is that the water should be at a room temperature because when it’s cold, it makes the enzymes inactive, thus leading to a toxic waste build up in your body.
Most importantly, you should definitely avoid carbonated and caffianated drinks while you are eating since it can cause acid reflux and digestive problems.
