Tattoo Colors Can Cause Cancer – Scientists Warn

Tattoos have been popular in the Western countries for centuries, and as time passes by they become more and more in trend, especially among the younger generations. However, according to some recent studies, inking your skin can have some detrimental effects on your overall health as a result of inappropriate use of certain colors.

A group of experts from the English Agency of Public Health made a shocking discovery that some tattoo colors contain dangerous toxic substances that can cause cancer. They discovered that toxic nano-particles from tattoo color get deposited in the spleen through the blood and kidneys. This reduces the body’s ability to filter toxins.

The danger of red and blue colors

This latest discovery further confirms the findings of researchers from the US and Denmark who had discovered cancer-causing chemicals in tattoo hues, including cobalt and mercury. According to their report, the red color used in tattooing contains mercury, while the green and blue shades contain cobalt. Since these substances are dangerous to our health, the researchers demanded the competent authorities to address this issue and regulate the use of these toxic colors.

The danger of black color

Dr. Georgina Serupa from Copenhagen conducted a study on the same subject and revealed that 13 of the 21 hues commonly used in tattoos around Europe contain cancer-causing chemicals.

Several US researches showed that black tattoo color is produced using benzopyrene, which in experiments made on animals has been shown to cause skin cancer.
