The Largest Study of Aspartame

The University of Iowa has conducted a study including 59,614 women and an analysis of their diet soda consumption over the span of 3 years. The subjects were divided into four groups:

  1. 2+ diet drinks a day,
  2. 5-7 diet drinks per week,
  3. 1-4 diet drinks per week,
  4. 0-3 diet drinks per month.

The drinks were defined as a 12-ounce beverage, which included diet sodas and diet fruit drinks.

The Report

The researchers concluded the women who had two or more diet drinks a day had a 30% higher risk of cardiovascular disease, and overall mortality in comparison to those who had 0-3 drinks a month.

“This is one of the largest studies on this topic, and our findings are consistent with some previous data…” says Dr.Ankur Vyas, the lead investigator of the study.

The percentage of heart attacks, ischemic stroke, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, cardiovascular death varied in among the four categories:

  1. 2+ diet drinks a day – 8.5%
  2. 5-7 diet drinks per week – 6.9%
  3. 1-4 diet drinks per week – 6.8%
  4. 0-3 diet drinks per month – 6.2%

This association continued even after the researchers adjust the date include other factors such as body mass index, smoking, energy intake, salt intake, energy intake, diabetes, high cholesterol, hormone therapy use, hypertension, and intake of sugar-sweetened drinks. This brings speculation that aspartame’s harmful ramifications can be farther-reaching than the damage caused by the negative health components listed above.

Other Detrimental Effects

Weight Gain

The ‘diet’ in ‘diet soda’ is one of biggest scams in the marketing industry today.

The sweet taste of aspartame causes your body to prepare to digest something caloric. When the food doesn’t come, the body becomes hungry, heightening cravings and appetite.

Emotional Disorders/Depression

Researchers have saidIndividualsals with mood disorders are particularly sensitive to this artificial sweetener and its use in this population should be discouraged.” Many have found that by eliminating aspartame from their diet, their depression, low serotonin levels, and other symptoms were relieved.

Cancer

The methanol (formaldehyde) and DKP in the chemical makeup of aspartame are cancer-causing substances.

The Good News

This diabolical killer is finally being subdued. There is a decline in diet soda sales as awareness for the dangers of aspartame are being realized. The lies that say this poison is beneficial for one’s health are being discovered by scientific studies like this one.

There is no need to harm one’s self with artificial sweeteners when there is a great variety of healthier options available such as stevia, xylitol, raw honey, dates, coconut sugar, and organic maple syrup. Try a few to find the one you like best. You won’t even miss the poison.
