If you’ve ever cleaned a toilet you probably know that there are a million different cleaning products on the market and they all guarantee to do a better job than the one you already use. The sad truth is that none of them do the amazing job they all advertise be it the cleaner for soap scum, hard water, descaling or unclogging. All they do is expose us to the damaging toxic vapors and chemicals which can cause allergies, irritation and all sorts of problems.
If you are among those who prefer the more natural approach but just can’t seem to find the right solution for your clogged and scaled shower head you’ve come to the right place. Been there, done that. I too was wondering if there is a way to get my old, rusty shower head to work well without spraying in a million different direction, making a total mess out of my old bathroom and to my surprise I found the simplest and easiest solution out there. The best part – it works like a charm.
Let me first tell you that I’m talking about a really clogged shower head, the one in my older (not-renovated) bathroom but it’s the one on the first floor so we all tend to use it more often. The annoying part was when you turn it on and before you’ve eve adjusted the temperature it starts spraying you in the face because half of those little spray-jets are clogged while the other half is spraying in all directions due to the lime deposits. I found this online and since it was so easy I decided to try it, no harm could be done and I was really curious if it’s possible to be that easy.
Here’s what I did:
I took a large ziplock bag and filled it half way with white vinegar. I put the bag over the shower head making sure that its front was entirely dipped in the vinegar. I tied hair elastic around it to hold it in place and decided to leave it on for a while, thinking it could stay like this for the entire day just to make sure it works properly. However, things didn’t go as planned and I had to take it off after an hour or two, thinking I’m going to have to repeat the procedure once more. Imagine my surprise when I turned on the shower and everything was working excellent. I took off the bag and voila, I had a brand new shower. Unbelievable! No scrubbing and just like that it was working perfectly after just an hour. If yours is pretty clogged you might need to scrub a bit around the holes to get all the mineral deposits out, but mine was in a pretty bad shape and everything worked fine without scrubbing.
I can’t describe how satisfied I was with my little experiment and I have the feeling that I’m going to use this method quite often from now on. The part I like the most is that it’s completely toxins-free, all natural ingredients that can’t do anyone any harm.
So what do you think, are you going to give it a shot? Maybe you have a better idea or some more effective way you’ve discovered for our cleaning woes? Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
