3. Avoid drinks that can trigger reflux, such as alcohol, drinks with caffeine, and carbonated drinks.

4. Avoid chocolate, mint, citrus, pepper, vinegar, catsup, and mustard.

5. Chew gum. Chewing gum encourages the production of saliva, which can soothe your esophagus and wash acid down into your stomach.

6. Common foods and drinks that can cause heartburn and interrupt sleep include cocoa; garlic; onions; milk; fatty, spicy foods.

7. Don’t eat too quickly! Try putting your fork down between bites.

8. Eat smaller meals.
