Eventhough we are all aware of the negative effects of alcohol, we are still consuming it more than we should. This is the reason why a lot of people acquire different kind of diseases, including liver cirrhosis.
There is a new study from the United Kingdom which will be appreciated by the coffee lovers. It says that only by drinking 2 cups of coffee per day, liver damage caused by alcohol will be reversed.
The Study Finds Connection Between Liver Health and Coffee
Millions of people around the world die every year from this disease, but there is a good news for those whose favorite pick-me-up drink is coffee. It was discovered by the UK study which analyzed data from almost 10 studies that had more than 430, 000 participants, that drinking two more cups of coffee daily can lead to 44% less risk for liver cirrhosis. There are other diseases that can be caused by excessive intake of alcohol such as:
- Fatty liver disease ( often lined to diabetes and obesity)
- Immune disease
- Hepatitis infectionsImmune disease
There is still no cure for liver cirrhosis, so patients with this disease have their life in danger because it is potential fatal. The lead author of the study, Dr. Oliver Kennedy, the proffesor of Southampton University, concludes that consuming coffee has an important role in decreasing the risk of developing liver cirrhosis. It becomes easier to fight cirrhosis because many people love coffee, it is ubiquitous, cheap and they can tolerate this beverage.
Cirrhosis and the Coffee Study
The team studied the effects of coffee in almost 2,000 people who have cirrhosis.
They were divided into groups and these are the results:
- 21% less risk for cirrhosis if you drink just one cup of coffee every day
- 42% lower risk if you take 2 cups of coffee
- 56% decreased risk just by 3 cups of coffee
- And finally, 4 cups of coffee were translated 65% lower risk for the disease
The effects were compared to people who did not drink coffee. There’s also a study that showed filtered coffee is more effective than boiled coffee in fighting liver cirrhosis. Even though this is a really good news, there are some things to be considered first including:
- Beans Used
- Brewing Technique Used
- Lifestyle of the drinker
This revelation is welcomed by many, especially those who love drinking coffee and alcohol.
