The first thing you have to do is buy a bundle of green onions from the store, pick up the ones that look the healthiest and bring them home. When you’re preparing your meal don’t use the whole onions just chop the dark green parts and leave the rest along with the bulbs with little roots at the end. Prepare your meal as you would normally do and then you can get to work, we’ll use the white parts with roots for re-growing.

Green onions regrow very easy so you won’t need to put in a lot of effort; you just need to check on them from time to time to see how they’re doing. Put your leftover onions in a glass and fill it with cold water, just enough so that it covers the white parts of the onions. And that’s about it! Put the glass near a window and watch your beautiful little onion grow and flourish. They’ll grow really fast, you’ll be amazed. In just a few days you’ll have a fresh new batch to harvest. Make sure you change the water every 2-3 days to keep them fresh and harvest fresh green onions whenever you feel like it.

In time the parts you cut off will start drying out but the roots will grow like crazy. Once you grow strong roots you can plant them in a pot or in the garden if you want, why not? Or you can buy a new batch and do it all over again. You just need a few days to grow your own green onions.

This is a really fun little project and it’s the easiest thing you can regrow at home. Involve your children as well; they’re going to enjoy it!
